Decline in spot turmeric prices
On Thursday (10 February 2011), the spot turmeric prices fell by Rs. 500-700 per quintal for want of demand. But, the price of root variety gained Rs. 1,200 per quintal at the Regulated Marketing Committee. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association's sales yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs. 7,869-12,010 per quintal while root variety Rs. 7,809-10,769 per quintal.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs. 9,569-12,106 per quintal and root variety at Rs. 9,125-11,900. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety (new crop) was sold at Rs. 7,701-9,606 per quintal and the root variety at Rs. 5,001-7,930.
