Turmeric prices rise in Erode market
Erode, Feb 18 (PTI) After taking a tumble offlate, turmeric prices have started looking up in the Erode market after increased demand from North India.
Today, the finger variety of turmeric was sold at Rs 10,917 to Rs 12,610 per quintal. Root variety sold between Rs 9,396 to Rs 11,475 per quintal.
The commodity''s prices had hit a low of Rs 9,800 per quintal in mid-January, 2011 and by the end of the month, it sold at Rs 10,200 per quintal.
Traders said the demand for the crop has increased in North India and bulk buyers have started buying it by quoting good prices.
The commodity was sold in four different places. At Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, turmeric prices increased by Rs 1,341 per quintal than yesterday''s price.
Of the about 9,000 bags of turmeric that arrived in all four centres, about 60 per cent of the products was sold.
