Peru: Piquillo pepper exports increased 44%
Exports of canned piquillo pepper increased by 44% in the first two months, according to Customs statistics.
While in January and February of this year, exports reached US$8.7 million, in the same period that in 2010 recorded US$6 million.
This growth was driven by the increased consumption of Spain which remains as the main destination of exports of canned piquillo pepper with a share of US$7.1 million (82% of total volume), according to Customs statistics.
The U.S. is the second most important market that the product is exported to. Its current share is US$841,000 (10%), but this does not fulfill the expectations of Peruvian exporters.
In that sense, Jorge Chepote, president of the Committee Capsicums of ADEX, said that exports to the United States are growing and there is a favorable trend for this year.
