Decline in spot turmeric prices
On Tuesday (08 February 2011), the spot turmeric price fell steeply by Rs. 500 a quintal due to heavy arrivals. The four markets witnessed heavy arrivals of more than seven thousand bags, but the buyers, looking for low price, purchased limited stocks.
In the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety fetched Rs.8,509-12,366 per quintal and root variety fetched Rs. 8,003-12,166 per quintal. In Salem, the finger variety was sold at Rs. 12,489-13,260 per quintal. Root variety was sold at Rs.12,066- 12,519 per quintal.
In the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs. 9,610-12,250 per quintal, root variety at Rs. 7,514-12,166. In the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs. 10,029-12,731 per quintal and root variety, Rs. 8,059-11,719 per quintal.
